"If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there." Alice in Wonderland

Apparently I forgot to mention that I got into law school (first of many I hope). John Marshall in Chicago. AND I received the Dean's Scholarship for $36,000.

I've been to Chicago twice. AND LOVED IT. Let me reminisce.

This is me at the Pirates exhibit at the Field Museum, aka, where Indiana Jones works.
The Bestie Bradley eating the Chicago skyline. NOMS
The Greyhound.
Ok, so story about the Greyhound. I stayed with Bradley in Milwaukee, about a 45 min train ride from Chicago. Well, after enjoying a wonderful day in Chicago, we headed over to Union Station for the train. But we were 5 minutes. For the last train to Milwaukee.

Being savvy, we asked the ticket guy how we could get to Milwaukee. He suggested the Greyhound just a few blocks away. "Ok" we said. And we walked over the bus station.

The bus for Milwaukee was to leave at 10pm (it was about 8:30 now). So we bought our ticket and waited. Now, I love the fact that Greyhound exists. It's cheap and fairly quick. However, the station we stayed at was, well, questionable. But we got through it.

10 comes around. But no bus. It is running late and will be here at 11.

11 comes around. But no bus. It is running late and will be here at 12.

12 comes around. But no bus. At this point, both Bradley and I have talked with the station manager, who basically blows us off. We also call our parents, who are also a bit on the livid side, but say to get through it. At one point, we were contemplating just staying the night. But no dice. Brad and I were not going to be defeated.

In the end, we did not pull out of the station till around 1ish, getting into Milwaukee at around 3. Brad fell asleep on my shoulder, and I listened to the lost member of the Bee-Gees talk about God to some random passenger.

Lesson: take the second to last train out of Chicago. AND BE THERE EARLY.

So that is Chicago for me. Like I said, I hope this will be the first of many acceptances. But I would love to have Chicago be my law school campus.

10 Days!!

10 Days till I go home!!!

To do between now and then? Well.
  • Player's Theater meeting today
  • Movie w/ Monica (maybe Kelli) tonight as a belated birthday gift
  • Two more Latin American classes
  • Two more American Literature classes (RIP Spider on the projection)
  • One more journalism class (well, one class and a fun night at Minskey's w/ the class)
  • Service Report form for my sorority
  • Meeting about the Sigma Tau Delta English honors club conference in New Orleans (conveniently the weekend starting spring break)
  • Sisterhood event/party
  • Senate Midnight Breakfast
  • FINALS: luckily, I only have 1 paper, 1 portfolio, and 1 test that is open notes!
  • PACK!!
A busy 10 days, but it will be worth it to see my mom who is recovering from surgery, my sister who is ready to pop, and the rest of my rag-tag motley crew of a family.

Yes. I am more excited about seeing my cat than my family.

I just hope senioritis doesn't settle in too early.

Oh wait, it has.

Peace Out, Girl Scout!

So, I have obviously neglected to blog the last few weeks. My excuse? LIFE! But I will detail my life since November 6th. I will also be posting random pictures that may or may not have anything to do with my blog subject. Enjoy my randomness.

November 7th was Jessica's birthday, and lucky, she got my package in time. I sent her some candy, a card, and some free stuff I got for her from when I registered her for her shower.
This is the picture I used to the shower invitations (found on the internets)

Also that week, it was SUPER busy in the costume shop. This was the week I had to finalized the entire cast's costumes. I even had some cast members who I had never seen. Also, to make me have even more stress, one actor dropped, which meant a new cast member, and new measurements.

The week ended with Latasha's Me Day. For her Me day, we did a fashion show using just newspaper.
...And I totally won. Thanks to designer Monica
Also ending that week was some good ol' fashion volunteering. Along with Carma, we helped her little sister's girl scout troop get their silver award. We held a community, free garage sale. Although it was not a big turnout, all the items (clothes, toys, books, etc) were donated to the Boys and Girls Club. And I got my girl scout cookies.

That Sunday, the 13th, I had a really bad day. I felt the stress of being a senior, being away from home, and the realization that I am a grown up (and also some other personal issues). It was a tough time, but my sisters in the sorority knew that something was up, and that I needed my space. Sometimes the best way to help is just letting someone have space.

The next day was my birthday. I got a quiz in American Literature, a lovely card from Latasha, A LOT of work in the costume shop, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 and Lion King, one very long rehearsal, and a wonderful surprise gift of bacon-flavored popcorn from Monica.

That week, as I have alluded, was Tech Week, aka Hell Week. It is one of the most stressful times of the semester. Shirts disappeared, buttons were falling off, and a quick note to make wrap skirts, 4 of them. With tassel. I came in on Wednesday and finished those suckers up. Everything was costumed by Wednesday, and on Thursday, we opened with only 2 minor costume freakouts.

The week is now almost over. All I had to do was survive 2 odd days before Thanksgiving break. Monday, for American Literature class, we had a quiz with one of the questions being to name the random spider that lives on the classroom projector. No joke. It was a legit question worth 1pt. This is why I love college. This is why I love Rockhurst.

Today, I had a lovely lunch at Susan's (theater director) house. This was for Latasha's and mine practicum. We discussed theater stuff and had some yummy Mexican soup. But most importantly, I got to meet Beans, the cat.

My plans for Thanksgiving? Well, I'm not going home. Rather, I am concentrating on finishing up my senior thesis and papers for classes. I am also finishing up my Christmas list and budgeting for that.

I am planning on cooking some wonderful recipes for myself on Thursday. If I remember, I will take pictures of my progress, perhaps make a video of my kitchen shenanigans.

Happy Thanksgiving!

'Twas the week before Tech...

So, next week is tech week for Gone Missing. This means that I, the apparent costume designer, must have finished all costumes for 11 people, each of which has at least 2 costume changes.
Yeah. I'm  sewing.
Did I mention I just got my script. Now, I've been doing theater for a long time, and I usually don't read the whole script before the show. It's bad, but it's worked for me. Now, I actually have to read the script. UGH.

Needless to say, this week will be beyond busy. Ending with Latasha's ME day and a volunteer project on Saturday - but at least I will be getting some Girl Scout cookies.

Oh yeah, my sister's birthday is Monday. I sent her a package filled with candy. I should have filled it with painkillers and icy-hot since she has pulled something, or something. I don't really know, and she doesn't know either. Eh, that's Jess.

With Jessica's birthday Monday, my birthday is 7 days later on the 14th. Not really sure what I'm going to do. Perhaps Blanc? I did order some stuff online. I'm a proud owner of skinny jeans! And new oxfords.

After my birthday week/TECH/show week, a short 2 days (it used to be a week *sadface*), it is Thanksgiving Break. I'm not going home, however, I've decided to stick it out here. I have a lot to do, so I wont be too lonely. The biggest problem I have with staying here is figuring out a menu for my own Thanksgiving. I'm thinking spinach stuffed chicken with asparagus. But then, I found the Food Network magazine, and there are a lot of ideas I want to try out. SO MANY OPTIONS!!!

Just 5 weeks till home, and I can't wait. All I have to do is go through the motions, keep up my grades, and leave on a jet plane.

...don't know when I'll be back again...
